Directing Bio

 

Diane wrote, directed and premiered two of her own full length works, LIVING LARGE 2012 premier at Teatro Luna in Chicago and THE SWEETHEART DEAL 2017 premier at the Los Angeles Theatre Center.   She directed BORDERTOWN NOW in 2018 at The Pasadena Playhouse and Richard Cabral’s FIGHTING SHADOWS at Inner City-Arts in 2018 and 2019.

 

In the 2019-2020 season she will direct Janine Salinas Schoenburg's LAS MUJERES DEL MAR for Playwrights Arena/Los Angeles; FADE by Tanya Saracho at Trinity Rep in Providence, R.I., and the 30 year anniversary production of its premier: Josephina Lopez's REAL WOMEN HAVE CURVES at San Francisco Playhouse.

 

Diane has directed for East West Players, Cornerstone Theater Company, South Coast Repertory,  Center Theatre Group, Pasadena Playhouse, the Fountain Theatre, Playwrights Arena (Best Direector Nomination LA Weekly Awards) City Theatre in Pittsburgh, Mixed Blood in Minneapolis, Actor’s Theatre of Phoenix (Two Best Director Nominations, Arizoni Theatre Awards), Borderlands Theatre, Phoenix Theatre, both in Arizona, Victory Gardens in Chicago, among others.

 

She was a 2017 Directing Fellow for Sundance Theatre Lab in Arles, France, the 2016 Denham Directing Fellow for the Stage Directors and Choreographer’s Foundation.  She was inducted into The College of Fellows for the American Theatre in 2018, was appointed by President Obama to the NEA’s National Council on the Arts of which she still serves, and was president of the Theatre Communications Group board from 2013-2016. Her over 20 year tenue on artistic staff at Center Theatre Group/Los Angeles  included positions as Associate Producer, Director of New Play Production and Associate Artistic Director.
